IEW – Aslan’s Country – Lesson 14-Evacuations From London

In September 1939, the children in London were separated from their parents and evacuated to the countryside. They were loaded onto the bus to send them to points north of London. Notes, which contained their info (name, school, and where to be delivered), were pinned onto the children’s clothes. In 1941 1.5 million children had evacuated London. Some children had decent and pleasant homes, but some disgustingly ate toothpaste and glue to survive. Sadly, not all children arrived in the English countryside. Some even went to America and Canada! Some lost their notes, and some died of starvation. Some children were able to come back to their families, but they didn’t forget the scary experience.
