Frog Prince, or Just Deserts (Chapter 12)

At that moment, Dorinda realized the message of the simple story. Deeply she felt the injury committed yet poignantly forgiven. Struck by the boy’s kindness, she examined her own heart. Why had she not recognized how abhorrent her own behavior to Arthur had been? A mere promise to befriend him was all he had asked. In truth, she had treated him dreadfully as the king had treated his faithful nephew, Robert. With heartfelt tears, and remorse for her appalling behavior to him, Princess Dorinda kissed him on his cheek. And now she knew, that kindness to others was far more rewarding than nurturing one’s self interests.

What do you think Arthur did after that kiss? He kissed her back of course—the only sensible action for this self-respecting frog, which had secretly grown fond of the princess.

Then what occurred? You guessed it! POOF! Instantly both were restored into the prince and the princess they were meant to be. Both breathed a colossal sigh of relief, delighting in they’re transformation. The only noticeable change was that Dorinda had fortuitously lost her beauty mark, along with all the other warts.

Free at last of the magician’s spell, Arthur revealed the truth about his past. He told her that the real secret of his kindness, was learning humility in the guise of a frog. So, recognizing his wisdom, Dorinda’s head nodded in fervent knowledgeable agreement. When King Morton was asked if he would permit them to marry, he uncharacteristically replied,

“Sweet!”

With joy he gave them his blessing, indebted to Arthur and the fairy for restoring Dorinda to her lovable self.
