MOH II - Lesson 6 - Josephus

Josephus was born eight years after Jesus's crucifixion in a royal, Jewish family. He was contemporary with Nero.

Josephus wrote this about himself:

"When I was a child, and about 14 years of age, I was commended by all for love I had to learning; on which account the high priests and principal men of the city came then frequently to me together, in order to know my opinion on the accurate understanding of points of the law."

When he was 16 years old, he studied three different sects. The Pharisees Sadducees, and essences). He was 19 years old when he joined the Pharisees. He went to Nero and pleaded to free Jewish priests and succeeded.

Jews despised the Romans and prepared for war, but Josephus was impressed with the city's splendor. He had also seen Rome's army, and nothing in the whole world could beat it. In A.D. 66, the Four-Year War started. Josephus became a general of the Galileans. They lost, and everyone went to jail. In A.D. 69, Josephus was freed. Josephus wrote the history of the Jews from beginning to end. He taught it, lived it, and understood it.

The Jews had another revolt and lost again. The temple in Jerusalem was obliterated as Jesus had prophesied. Some people say he was the best historian who ever lived.
