IEW 2 Lesson 1A-Do Not Judge A Beach By Its Appearance

It is a peaceful sunny day at the beach. Most people think that no creatures are living there. They are WRONG!!! But hiding in the grains of sand are microscopic creatures! Sometimes, crabs come out of hiding and dig around the sand for these creatures as food. One species of crab called the Sand Bubbler Crab gets a handful of sand and sifts the animals out with its mouth. Sand Hoppers eat vegetation and rotting material that washes onshore. In addition to that, there are also a lot of worms, snails, starfish, and birds. Most of the time, they are buried in the sand to be camouflaged. Because they are disguised, the beach appears empty. DO NOT JUDGE! The beach seems empty, but it is teeming with life!
