IEW 2 Lesson 23-Mythological Creatures

Updated: May 14, 2020

If you were to choose which one would you be? A dwarf, a gnome, or a unicorn? Today, we are going to talk about those three mythological creatures. Dwarves who made Thor’s hammer, Gnomes of Bism, and the hoax of the unicorn’s horn. Read through and consider which one you want to be.

Once upon a time, maggots were feasting on a dead frost giant, and the gods made them into dwarves. Their job was to hold the sky. They have their language, which is called “Khuzdul.” The dwarves are proud, stubborn, and loyal. They are also hard workers of blacksmith and stone. They forged special weapons like Thor’s hammer and Storm breaker. So, who are the impressive people who made Thor’s hammer? Dwarves!

We know gnomes as the friendly-looking ceramic garden watchers. But real gnomes prefer helping unseen. Some also are ignominious. One gnome, whose name is Rubezahl, is the lord of the underworld. C. S. Lewis took his gnomes in The Silver Chair from Germanic Legends. In the book, there were different sizes of gnomes. Small gnomes didn’t carry anything while the big gnomes carried tridents because they were the Lady of the Green Kirtle’s guards. But the Gnomes of Bism were sad because the Lady of the Green Kirtle injects dark and gloomy thoughts into their minds.

Unicorns have abounded in literature for thousands of years. Either if it was fact or fiction, it was passed down. Literature loves the unicorn. The unicorn’s horn is called an Alicorn in the medieval times, and it was believed to be a cure to different ailments. There were dishonest salesmen and used other horns instead of the Alicorn. King James I of England bought and tested it on a servant. The servant drank poison and Alicorn powder. The servant died. After more testing, it was proved to be a hoax, and the Alicorn powder was powerless.

All these mythological creatures have unique abilities and are in The Chronicles of Narnia. So, do you know who you want to be? If yes, comment below! I hope you enjoyed reading it! Bye!
