Ghosts Of Belle Isle (The Virginia Mysteries Book 3) Summary

Updated: May 14, 2020

Sam waited for Caitlin’s mom to lock up the bookstore. He was going to go with Caitlin to her house to watch a movie. While walking, Sam was reading his new book from the bookstore and accidentally stepped onto the road. A man riding a motorcycle zoomed past him pushing him back to the sidewalk while knocking the book from Sam’s hands at one time. A dozen other motorcycle riders rode by. Caitlin helped Sam up and gave him his book. Caitlin’s mom said that the biker gang was called the Confederate Ghosts.

Mr. Haskins says that there was a legend that the ghosts of long-dead soldiers still fighting the civil war over the rapids of Belle Isle would appear at night. Sam is frightened, but Derek is excited and wants to go there immediately. He asks Meghan, their cousin, who is watching them for a week because their parents had gone to Paris for their anniversary if they could bike around Belle Island. She agreed(mostly because her boyfriend is in the area).

While they were biking around the island, some bullies surprised them by swerving into the trail. Sam accidentally squeezed the front tire brake and was flung into the air and got a wound in his elbow.

While on a party hosted by Professor Evanshade, Derek, Sam, and Caitlin, were outside enjoying the view of Belle Isle. Two bullies named Cameron and Sean from Derek’s class came and told him that Sean had lost his hat on Belle Island and broke his ankle so he could not get it. They said that if Derek came back with the hat, Cameron would stop bullying him for the rest of his life. Derek reluctantly agreed. However, when Derek disappeared, Sean pulled out his cap behind him. Sam and Caitlin called Derek, but he was too far already. They ran after Derek and found him in the custody of the biker gang. They try to free him but run into the leader of the biker gang. “Mad Dog” De Witt. Surprisingly, the group turned out to be good guys. They drove the three children back to the party while scaring the bullies on the way.
